A home for theater and live arts!
Black Lives Matter
In the current unrest surrounding too many deaths and ongoing violence towards Black people in America, we at Metropolitan Performing Arts will continue the examination of internal practices to work at being an anti-racist organization. We do not have all the answers, but we vow to do our part. We see you. We hear you. We don’t deny your lived experience. We are listening. We commit to working towards ensuring that all children see themselves reflected on our stage and have access to creative environments where they can learn and grow together. Racism and indifference are wrong. We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, artists, and neighbors. *Image credit - NPR's Code Switch |
Metropolitan Performing Arts is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 that is dedicated to enriching our community by nurturing a lifelong passion and appreciation for live arts through education and performance opportunities. Our academy offers classes for both children and adults in acting, singing, dance, tech, design and stage combat. Our community theater is committed to a quality community theater experience that involves and enlightens.
Our Classes allow each student to realize and reach their creative potential. Students can choose to take individual classes (acting, singing, dance, tech, combat) or enroll in our musical theater program, MTP for short. MTP's focus is to train ‘Triple Threats’- talented individuals who can sing, dance and act with equal accomplishment. Tuition in this program includes three (3) technique driven core classes (one acting, one dance and one vocal), along with a guaranteed role in our Academy's main stage production. The development of performance skills is a vital part of being a Triple Threat. With the opportunity to be on stage, students will grow into a polished stage performer.
Our Community Theater is dedicated to preserving a quality community theater experience. We strive to produce theater that involves and enlightens our community. Our shows have been recognized with several PAMTA and DRAMMY nominations. Each production has enriched the community by exposing new generations to live productions including Taming of the Shrew, The Three Musketeers: An Adventure with Music, The Fantasticks, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Chicago, Rent, Little Women, Annie, Gypsy, Meet Me in St. Louis, and Les Misérables. As a community organization we are reaching out to you, the community that we serve, to partner with us to keep community theater alive and well in SW Washington.
