AUDITIONS
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Actors under the age of 18 must be enrolled in at least one class with Metropolitan Performing Arts.
Actors under the age of 11 are not eligible for mainstage productions.
If Actors are between the ages of 11 - 18 and enrolled in 3 or more classes they have a spot in the cast/tech pending their audition. All actors must audition for the musical in order to be cast.
Actors over the age of 18 are volunteers. There is no monetary compensation for this show.
If actors between the ages of 11 - 18 are cast in the show, they will need to enroll on Active in Mainstage FAME and agree to pay a show fee of $250.00 per student. ( Discounts if applicable may apply.)
We recommend that our younger actors review this production with their parent as the production shows difficult and dark subject matter.

ABOUT THE SHOW
An unmistakable title from the unforgettable film and television franchise, Fame The Musical inspired generations to fight for fame and light up the sky like a flame! Conceived and developed by David De Silva – now known affectionately to the planet as "Father Fame" – this high-octane musical features the Academy Award-winning title song and a host of other catchy pop numbers.
The show follows the final class of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts from their admission in 1980 to their graduation in 1984. All of the struggles, fears and triumphs – from prejudice to substance abuse – are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young artists navigate the worlds of music, drama and dance.
Fame is an international sensation that continues to reach new generations of performers and audience members. The show provides great opportunities to feature a diverse talent pool and showcase artistic mediums like dancing, singing, acting, rapping and musicianship

Our show fees help us to perform amazing shows like Newsies and Fame. The rights for a show like FAME are over $4,000, plus the cost of scripts, costumes, sets and more. The show fee is a small ask to help us perform the shows your kids love.

Audition and Callbacks Panel
You will be auditioning for The Director Greg Schilling, Music Director Melissa Sondergeld-Hood and Choreographer Kemba Shannon. An MPA representative may also be present. An accompanist may also be present in the room at auditions and/or callbacks and Shannon Jung, The Stage Manager, will be at the venue to run the callbacks and assist with any questions.

FAME is an exciting, high-energy and choreography heavy musical and it needs a cast to match!

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Serena Katz
A shy and timid, yet keen and enthusiastic actress. She is attracted to Nick.

Ambitious, Enthusiastic and classical actor who is very serious about his craft. He holds a hidden romantic interest for Serena.

Joe Vegas
An acting student. Loud, funny and comical. He develops a crush on Carmen.

Carmen Diaz
A sexy and confident, but cocky, dancer with a big ego. Carmen is determined to make it big and is obsessed with the idea of fame, nearly to a fault.

Tyrone Jackson/Jack Zakowski ( Same Role with Alternate Casting )
Tyrone: A talented but dyslexic hip-hop dancer who come from a poor background. Shares a difficult relationship with Iris.
Jack: Headstrong, able dancer. A functional illiterate from a poor background and a Russian immigrant student from Brighton Beach in Brooklyn.

Iris Kelly
A very talented, graceful ballet dancer who often comes across as snobbish and mean because of her insecurities with herself. She shares a difficult relationship with Tyrone/Jack.

Schlomo Metzenbaum
A classical violinist who starts a rock band. He is fed up from the strain of his famous violinist father's expectations. He is very wise and academically clever.

A loud, confrontational rock chick and tomboy who plays the drum for Schlomo's band. She often loses her temper and it is implied that she does not take school seriously.

An musician who is in Schlomo's band. He is believed to be Schlomo's best friend.

Mabel Washington
A loud and plus-size dancer and singer who is desperate to shed the pounds but can't resist food. Often speaks her mind and gives out advice to others in their times of trouble

AUDITION FORMAT
Please try and bring in a headshot, acting resume and completed audition form. If you do not have these things that is okay but if you do we would like to see them. Please don’t stress but treat this like a professional audition.
Vocal

32 bars or less of a musical theater song.
You are required to sing 32 bars or less of a musical theater song that demonstrates your vocal range and ability. This should be a song that you know well and can perform off by heart. A song in the style of the show is preferred. There will be an accompanist but if you do not have sheet music you can sing with a track if you provide one. There is a bluetooth speaker and an aux cord provided to use at the audition. We do encourage you use the accompanist in your audition.
Monologue

1 - 2 Minute Monologue.
You are also required to prepare a 1 - 2 minute monologue that demonstrates your acting ability. Monologues from plays are preferred. Pick something in your age range and your monologue should be memorized.
Callback Format
All auditionees should keep the call back dates available just in case. You will be contacted if you are required for call backs and emailed further music to prepare if required. We suggest familiarizing yourself with the songs from the show before the call backs. Everyone should be prepared to dance and to read a script excerpt from the show in a “cold read.”
REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES
Rehearsals
General rehearsals are planned to commence on Thursday, February 29th. All rehearsals are held at Metropolitan Performing Arts or at a TBD offsite location. Please note that rehearsal dates are subject to change. All potential rehearsal days are listed below. Not all cast members may be called to each rehearsal day, but you must have it available.
Note all possible conflicts at the time of your audition. If you anticipate absences during the rehearsal period please honest about it on your audition form.

We value your time, so we will only call you for the rehearsals that you are needed at. However, you should ensure that you are generally available for these times during the rehearsal period prior to auditioning.
Tech Weeks and Performance Dates
Cast will be required for each rehearsal during tech rehearsals and all performances. This is not negotiable.
Please consider your availability for rehearsals and the performance season prior to auditioning to avoid disappointment. The production schedule is as follows:
